Similarity between services does not by itself establish patent infringement. Patent scope is assessed through the elements and relationships defined in the claims.
A startup should not abandon a business after reading only a competitor patent's title or abstract. It should review the claims, prosecution history, validity issues and differences in its own implementation.
At the same time, protecting its own differentiation can create an asset that is legible in investment and commercial negotiations.
