Specification Review and Filing

A patent attorney reviews the patent draft you wrote yourself or with AI, revises it and files it with the patent office.

OVERVIEW

We take a finished draft through to filing

We accept drafts written with AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude, by in-house staff or by another firm. Many people finish a specification and then get stuck at filing. You can ask for a review only, filing only, or a review followed by revision and filing.

Already filed and received an office action? We can respond to it for you. Office action response →

Review only

A written review listing issues by claim and the order in which to fix them, organized so you can hand it to an AI agent to make the changes.

  • Written review
  • You revise and file yourself

Filing only

ABC files your specification as your attorney without changing its content, bringing it into the patent office's format and formal requirements.

  • Format and formal requirements
  • Applicant code and application form
  • Electronic filing and the application number

Review and file

Recommended

A patent attorney revises the specification and drawings based on the review, and ABC files the application as your attorney.

  • Review and revision
  • Applicant code and application form
  • Electronic filing and the application number
  • Later office actions handled for fixed fees

All three are flat fees that do not change with the length of the draft or the number of issues found, quoted before work begins. Official patent-office fees for filing are extra.

CAPABILITIES

What we check

01

Claim scope

Whether the independent claims cover the actual product and likely design-arounds, and whether any element narrows them needlessly.

02

Support

Whether the description and drawings support every claim element, and where embodiments are missing.

03

Clarity

Terms used inconsistently between claims and description, unclear wording and purely functional elements that weaken the application in examination or disputes.

04

Typical AI-draft problems

References that do not exist, unverified test results and figures, repeated passages and generic text unrelated to the invention.

ENGAGEMENT

How it works

01

Send the draft

Send the specification draft, drawings and any material describing the invention.

02

Review

We compare the claims, description and drawings for scope, support and clarity. With filing only, we check format and formal requirements.

03

Revise

We revise the specification and drawings based on the review and confirm the changes with you. With a review only, you receive the written review at this step.

04

File

We prepare the application, file it with the patent office and send you the application number.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you take drafts written with AI?
Yes. Tell us which tool you used and how, and we will look for the problems that approach typically causes.
My specification is finished. Can you just file it?
Yes, with filing only. We handle the applicant code, the application form, formatting, electronic filing and the official-fee payment instructions.
With filing only, do you look at the content at all?
We do not change it. Because we file as your attorney, we will tell you if something should not be filed as it is, such as unverified test results. For claim scope and clarity, choose review and file.
Can I file an AI-written draft as it is?
We advise against it. In its June 2026 guide on patent filing in the age of AI, Korea's Ministry of Intellectual Property (formerly KIPO) states that applicants and their attorneys must thoroughly check the truthfulness of the specification and whether the invention can actually be carried out. AI output filed without a substantial human contribution to the invention cannot be patented, and presenting AI-generated test results as real ones can lead to criminal liability under Article 229 of the Patent Act.
Can I revise and file it myself after a review?
Yes. The written review is organized by claim, so you can hand it to an AI agent to make the changes. A review is not representation, so revisions and filing remain the applicant's responsibility.
Does a longer draft cost more?
No. The fee does not change with the length of the draft or the number of issues found.
Does the review mean the patent will be granted?
No. The review finds what to fix before filing; whether a patent is granted is decided in examination against the prior art.
Is a prior-art search included?
The review checks the draft against the background it cites and documents you know of. A separate search can be scoped if needed.
Can I enter an undisclosed invention into an AI tool?
Depending on the tool and plan, what you enter may be stored or used for training. The Ministry's guide also recommends settings that keep your input out of external AI training. Check the service's data settings and terms before entering anything confidential.
